CLARiiON storage systems has been used in numerous companies for more than two decades. The Data General Group developed it in the early 1990s, initially under the name HADA. Mainly due to the advanced technology offered by CLARiiON, EMC acquired the entire General Data company and from then on continued the series under the name EMC CLARiiON. This resulted in important technical developments that made the product even more interesting for companies. EMC discontinued production in 2011. However, the group launched EMC VNX in the same year. The successor is based in many areas on the previous CLARiiON technology.

With the Dell EMC merger, support for the CLARiiON and VNX systems became even more difficult. Former Dell partners had to provide support for EMC systems and EMC partners for Dell systems. Since production has already been discontinued in 2011, this mainly involves older units for which the necessary spare parts are not always available from other suppliers.
